Stevens Worldwide Van Lines announced today its renewed participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Program. The participation agreement marks the beginning of a one-year agreement of mutually working towards more cost-effective and environmentally efficient freight transportation systems.
SmartWay aims to accelerate the availability, adoption and market penetration of advanced fuel efficient technologies and operational practices in the freight supply chain, while helping companies save fuel, lower costs and reduce adverse environmental impacts. The EPA helps SmartWay Partners move more goods, more miles with lower emissions and less energy.
Since 2007, Stevens Worldwide has been taking steps to reduce air pollution in its fleet; so far more than $8 million has been invested in their fleet to achieve this end. In 2012, Stevens joined the EPA’s SmartWay Program in an added effort to continually improve its pollution reduction efforts. So intensive was Stevens’ commitment to reducing their carbon emissions, they were awarded the 2014 Smartway Excellence Award. Winners of this award are evaluated on criteria such as total emissions and current standing with the EPA.
