According to recent data, young adults are moving out of state at an almost record rate. The Associated Press recently reported on a census study that revealed that people between the ages of 25 and 29 are moving as frequently as they did before the recession. William Frey, a demographer from the Brookings Institution, believes that even more Americans will move once a greater number jobs become available.
“We will see their migration rates swell even higher if the jobs become more plentiful,” Frey told the news source.
People are flocking to locations that are home to booming industries and thriving businesses. Below is a list of some areas that have seen a massive influx of new residents.
According to Forbes, Denver gained almost 20,000 new citizens between July 2010 and 2011, the latest time period for available data. Colorado’s capital is relatively youthful and shares similarities with a number of college towns. Denver is home to a vibrant music and sports scene, which appeal to young adults.
That said, it’s the rapid job creation in the city that’s most attractive to Americans. KDVR, Fox’s affiliate in Denver, writes that the city has the third highest growth rate for jobs in the U.S. Only Houston and Atlanta have added more positions than Denver.
Florida is a popular destination for people of all ages, especially retirees. The Sunshine State is a haven for senior citizens who want to escape the cold weather. Additionally, many medical professionals hire state to state movers to bring their belongings to Florida so they can accept positions at leading healthcare institutions.
Forbes reports that the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area is the state’s most popular location for new residents. Over 36,000 people moved to the area between July 2010 and 2011. South Florida’s economic prospects have improved over the last couple years, motivating Americans to relocate before home prices reach pre-recession highs.
The Dallas-Fort Worth metro area welcomed almost 40,000 new residents in only a year, according to Forbes. Major companies in the technological and transportation industries are headquartered in the two cities. More Americans are expected to move to Dallas and Fort Worth as local businesses continue to grow.
